Bloodhound SSC is a British team’s project to bring down the current land speed record of 763 mph. The vehicle which will reach 1000 mph is equipped with an EJ200 Eurofighter Typhoon jet engine plus an 880-lb. rocket. Combined, these two produce the equivalent of 133,150 hp.The start of Bloodhound SSC’s design began in October 2008, and the tenth iteration is the version currently being developed to set the land speed record. The fighter pilot Andy Green will pull the strings the wheel, in an attempt to break the land speed record in 2011. A 12-mile stretch across a flat, dried-up lake in the Hakskeen Pan in South Africa will be the place for the record attempt.
