Even if Porsche said lately that they won’t produce a new entry-level mid-engine sports car, VW(Porsche’s new parent), is exciting about this idea.
Recently, VW Group chairman Martin Winterkorn said : “The Porsche model range is firmly based on the 911, Boxster, Cayenne and Cayman, and it will stay that way. We are also investigating opportunities for a smaller sports car and a smaller SUV — but I cannot say more at the moment.”
According to rumors, the cars will go on sale in late 2012 and it could cost somewhere in the $50,000 range. Also rumors say the 356 car will be built on aluminum and steel chassis of the upcoming Audi R4 and it will be launched next year.
The cars also have the same underpinnings, styling and power trains but it will be different. Moreover, rumors say Porsche will develop the first ever force-fed flat-four. In what concerns power, it will be around 250 HP or similar to today’s Boxster output.
Nevertheless, VW appeared interested in producing an all new small version of the compact “Baby Cayenne”.
