Edin Sarkic, a local producer, confirmed to AFP that the shooting of this film, which has caused a stir among Bosnian victims of the 1992-95 war, had begun on a site in Sarajevo in the absence of Angelina Jolie.
According to the newspaper Dnevni Avaz, the film crew has only run a few panoramic sequences of Sarajevo and several scenes in the town of Vares (center). Part of the shoot scheduled in Bosnia should be completed on Sunday, several other media reported.
Meanwhile, Sarkic has told Bosnian state radio that filming would take place in Bosnia in five of the 17 sites originally planned.
The actress is still filming in Hungary, the producer told AFP. This is the first movie by Angelina Jolie as a director.
According to the synopsis of the film, the story begins in 1992 in eastern Bosnia where a young couple is separated by war. They then find themselves, but the girl, who is Muslim, is detained in a camp where her companion before the war, a Serb, had become a jailer.
Tthe movie has sparked strong reactions from a local association of women raped during the war. The association had forced local authorities to cancel the shooting in mid-October.
Angelina Jolie has asked women war victims in a letter to hold judgment until they had seen the film in which “there are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters.”
Jolie has also said she would come to Sarajevo and speak to the Women Victims of War association, whose president Bakira Hasecic has been the most vocal opponent of Jolie’s film project.
