In July 2007, police had searched his vehicle after a concert by Lil Wayne, and had found a semi-automatic weapon.
Ja Rule, 34, whose real name is Jeff Atkins, would have a much harsher sentence if he didn’t plead guilty. He was released on bail until the date of the statement of this sentence, which has not been set.
“Despite having some of the strongest anti-gun laws in the nation, gun violence continues to plague this City,” said District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. “Gun crimes are serious offenses, and today’s guilty plea should send a serious message to anyone thinking of illegally bringing a gun into New York City.”
The rapper Lil Wayne, 28, was also found in possession of a weapon that night. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to a one-year period in prison last March. He was released for good behavior in November.
