Leighton Meester’s interview for Seventeen magazine

Leighton’s love life has followed a sinuous path in recent years. However, despite a difficult separation, the actress still strongly believes in love.

“I think that the importance of love is really strong for me in my life, whether it’s a guy or a friend or just my puppy. I think love changes you over time, and whether you have good or bad experiences, you always grow and learn from it,” the Gossip Girl star told Seventeen.

“I’ve only had one experience where it was really hard and I was really sad when it ended,” the actress says of her separation from Stan. “I’ve never really liked anybody before. Even when I would date guys, it would sort of be on the surface and it was always a relief when we broke up.”

Meester also talks about mourning a breakup: “I think you have to know how you feel when you’re sad and it’s healthy to mourn if a relationship ends. You should go through a period where you experience that feeling instead of fighting against it all the time and saying ‘No I want to be happy’ because that’s not healthy. As much as I don’t want sad or bad things to happen to me, it’s given me a lot of material for my work, so it’s good.”

Regarding her party life, she comments: “I’m not really a partier, in general. I’ve definitely learned that that’s probably the least interesting thing you can do with your time.”

In the end, Leighton admits to having big expectations about the future: “I want a family someday… and I think there is someone out there for me.”

There’s certainly more than one candidate in any case!
