Top scandals 2010: Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus and Tiger Woods

1.Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva parted, according to press reports in April, five months after the birth of their daughter, Lucia.

In late June, Grigorieva obtained a restraining order against Gibson, claiming that he punched her in the face and knocked out her teeth in a fit of rage during an altercation in January. The actor admitted in an audio recording that he did hit her while she held their baby in her arms. He confesses in a sound recording he hit because Oksana saying that she “deserved it”.

A second and third tape in which the actor is threatening his former girlfriend later leaked on the internet.

Gibson asked in court that his former girlfriend not be allowed to speak publicly about the case and about the understanding reached regarding the custody of their daughter, visiting opportunities and financial support for the child. However, his accusations that Oksana Grigorieva tried to extort him look thinner than expected.

After the split, the singer said her relationship with Mel Gibson had started three years earlier and not a year earlier, as stated in the press, sparking rumors that the two began their relationship in a time when Gibson was married to Robyn, his former wife, with whom he has seven children. Gibson’s marriage lasted 29 years and ended in April 2009, when Oksana Grigorieva announced that she was pregnant.

Recently, Oksana said Mel beat her to get excited in bed. Gibson and his lawyers were outraged by her claims and asked Judge Scott Gordon on Friday to take custody away from Oksana on rounds she acted maliciously and not in the best interest of Lucia, by allegedly leaking the story.

2.Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan became famous at the age 11 when she starred in “The Parent Trap”, and was seen as one of the most talented young actresses in Hollywood. Her career reached a peak in 2003 and 2004, when she starred in the films ” Freaky Friday” and ” Mean Girls.”

But at 20, Lohan is already going to AA meetings and her life style was the subject of news sites.

Lindsay Lohan admitted in 2007 that she was addicted to drugs and alcohol and went to rehab three times for treatment of addiction. In May 2010, a judge ordered her to wear a monitoring bracelet in order to monitor the concentration of alcohol in her blood and was jailed again, because she missed therapy sessions.

Lindsay’s attorney said that the judge’s ruling is “harsh and unfair” and claimed the star still isn’t fully aware of her awful situation: “She is a fragile, lost child”.

In September 2010, Lohan failed a court-mandated drug test and risked getting 30 days in jail for a positive drug test. After being sent to Lynwood Correctional Facility, her lawyer filed all the legal papers and took her out for a $300,000 bail. Lindsay then checked into rehab.

While in rehab, the actress received threats from a stalker, even suggesting that he was “watching her.”

In addition, Lohan was accused of assaulting an employee at the Betty Ford Center where she was in treatment, after the latter had asked the star to undergo testing for drugs and alcohol. The clinic fired the staffer because of violation of confidentiality and disclosing a privileged document.

After the incident, the police decided to investigate the case, saying Lohan violated several aspects of her probation.

As she has just got out of rehab, moved in a new place and surprisingly discovered it’s next door to her ex Samantha Ronson. Lindsay apologized to Ronson and the two seem to have reached an agreement.

3.Charlie Sheen

After having had numerous problems with the justice in the 90s, mainly due to drug abuse and violence, Charlie Sheen is currently one of the highest paid television actors in the US, thanks to roles in very popular series such as “Two and a Half Men” and “Spin City.”

In October the actor, who had just been released from rehab two months ago, was hospitalized after ravaging his hotel room. Naked and drunk, Sheen flipped and threw tables and chairs across the room.

The escort girl that allegedly took refuge in the bathroom is a adult movie star that goes by the names of Christina Walsh aka Capri Anderson.

The 22-year old star accused Sheen of having threatened to kill her as he couldn’t find his wallet and suspected her of having stolen it. She claimed Sheen made racist comments, threw a lamp at her and grabbed her by the throat during that evening.

Charlie Sheen responded immediately by filing a complaint for extortion in which he says Capri Anderson asked him for one million dollars while threatening to destroy his career.

However, authorities didn’t consider that Sheen engaged in criminal conduct and closed the case.

Last month, the actor reportedly spent the winter holidays drinking and smoking. “He’s been having a great time partying like crazy for the past several weeks,” a source said.

Recently, it was announced that Sheen had been killed in a snowboarding accident. However, the rumors proved to be false and had the actor joke about it: “When I heard on the news that I had died the other day, I quickly ran to my PC and checked the ratings for my show. Hmmm … that’s odd, all the numbers appeared solid. Perhaps even up a bit.

4.Tiger Woods

2010 has been one long descent into “hell” for Tiger Woods, with the disclosure of his extramarital affairs and then the divorce that had repercussions on his performance on the golf field, where he won nothing and lost the leading position.

In February 2010 reports showed that the golfer checked himself into rehab in The Meadows treatment center in Wickenburg, Arizona, to battle addictions to two prescription medications.

Two months later, it was announced that his wife, Elin Nordegren Woods might leave Tiger and move back to Sweden as she was fixing up a house on a newly purchased property in that country.

In May, rumors said Tiger cheated on his wife with 121 women. In an August issue of People magazine, Elin Nordegren talked about the divorce saying, “I have been through the stages of disbelief, shock, anger and ultimately grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my children”.

In turn, Tiger released a public letter in which he apologized for his behavior over the past two years.

Recently, it was announced that Woods was dropped from the cover of his own video game. Sponsors such as Gatorade, AT&T, Gillette and Accenture also gave up their collaboration with the athlete.

5.Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus, star of the show “Hannah Montana” and daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, took the stage, both in film and music, after she appeared in this series.

“Hannah Montana” tells the story of a young girl who lives a secret life as a pop star. The series, aired in 2006, has a big-screen version too, which was a box office hit in the US last year.

Drinking is what brought Miley in the spotlight. She was spotted in a nightclub in Spain, having fun holding a bottle of Corona.

But the scandal that caused the most outrage is her now infamous bong video. The clip that leaked on the net showed Miley experimenting with a bong at a party.

As if this wasn’t enough scandal for an 18-year-old a couple of weeks later racy photos of the star were posted on the net. The singer appears in suggestive poses with her assistant pretending to lick her breasts.

The latest buzz about Miley reports that she is set to team up with ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas for what appears to be a joint album.
