Natalie Portman is an Israeli-American actress, born June 9, 1981 in Jerusalem. She made her film debut in Luc Besson’s Leon, alongside Jean Reno in 1994.
She rose to international fame in 1999 with the release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, in which she plays Padmé Amidala. She retains this role in episodes II and III, released in 2002 and 2005.
Natalie Portman worked with movie giants such as Woody Allen (Everyone Says I Love You), Al Pacino and Robert De Niro (Heat), Tim Burton (Mars Attacks!) or Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan).
In 2005, she won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Closer; this role also earned her an Oscar nomination. She was awarded the Saturn Award for Best Actress in 2007 for his role in the dystopia V for Vendetta.
In addition to her artistic activities, Natalie Portman works with the FINCA International (Foundation for International Community Assistance), a non -profit organization that promotes micro-lending to help finance women-owned businesses in developing countries. In 2003, Portman graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Natalie is also the new face of THE Parfums Christian Dior line.
Natalie Portman began her career at a very young age (she is under twelve years during the filming of Leon) and at sixteen, she had already appeared in six films. Despite having played in several big-budget movies, she is best known for her roles in drama films and the quality of her interpretation.
In December 2010, Natalie’s rep announced that the actress got engaged to Benjamin Millepied and that she was also pregnant with her first child. The actress met Millepied, dancer at the New York City Ballet and famous choreographer, on the set of Black Swan, the latest film by Darren Aronofsky.
Speaking to reporters backstage at the 16th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards in L.A. Friday, the 29-year-old star said her pregnancy has been relatively easy so far. “I feel great. I’m through my first trimester,” Portman said. “It’s been really calm and good.”
Regarding the edgy scenes in the movie Black Swan, Portman said she believes that the success of Darren Aronofsky’s film owes much to the lesbian scene she shares with the beautiful Mila Kunis.
“Everyone was so worried about who was going to want to see this movie. I remember them being like, ‘How do you get guys to a ballet movie? How do you get girls to a thriller?’ And the answer is a lesbian scene. Everyone wants to see that,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly.
Keira Knightley was born March 26, 1985 and she is an English actress.
She began her career at a very young age and came to international prominence in 2003 with her roles in Bend It Like Beckham and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
She has since become a successful actress, having roles in several Hollywood productions and being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role as Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, directed by Joe Wright.
She appeared in several films in the 1990s before being chosen for the role of Sabé, Padmé Amidala’s decoy, in the blockbuster Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. She was chosen for the role because of her resemblance to Natalie Portman, who plays Amidala; during filming their mothers had difficulty in distinguishing them when they were both in full makeup.
In 2007, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, as well as the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in Atonement.
In 2008, according to Forbes, Knightley was the second highest paid actress in Hollywood, having reportedly earned $32 million the previous year, making her the only non-American on the list of highest paid actresses.
Knightley is the face of an Amnesty International campaign to support human rights and helps raise awareness of the UDHR and human rights abuses. In April 2006, she was confirmed as the new celebrity face of Chanel’s perfume Coco Mademoiselle.
Recently, it was announced that Keira and Rupert Friend, who met on the set of the film “Pride and Prejudice” in 2005, split after 5 years of romance. Reports also said Knightley bought a house in southern France, near Nice.
While media reports said the breakup was an amicable one, the actress’ father recently gave a little insight into why things worked out that way.
“It wasn’t a decision that either of them took lightly,” William Knightley told The Daily Mail. “I know they gave it a great deal of thought,” he added. “I don’t think there was any one thing that led to their break-up – it was a whole raft of things, I think.”
