The video, which will be presented in coming weeks, was filmed in New York last month, by director Jonas Åkerlund. He had previously collaborated with the singer for the songs Telephone and Paparazzi.

Born This Way is the first single from the forthcoming album by Lady Gaga due on 23 May, which promises to be “the album of the decade.” The disk should include twenty new songs.

The electro-pop song written by Lady GaGa is produced by DJ White Shadow and Fernando Garibay. You can listen to it online on Lady Gaga’s website.

With the hook “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen,” and lyrics like “You’re black, white, beige, chola descent / You’re Lebanese, you’re Orient”, the message of the song highlights an all-embracing quality.

Many admirers of the singer agree that the song is similar in many ways to Express Yourself by Madonna, released in 1989.

“Definitely feeling the Madonna vibes, which I mean as a huge compliment. This track is fierce,” a fan tweeted on Friday.

Other admirers include big-house names newspapers or magazines.

“Basically it is a reworking of Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’ with a touch of Madonna’s ‘Vogue’. Which is a bit too much Madonna for someone who is trying to establish her own identity as the, er, new Madonna,” Daily Telegraph critic Neil McCormick wrote.

“Despite the obvious tip of the cap to Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’ (which was just Madge’s knock-off of the Staple Singers’ ‘Respect Yourself’), it’s steeped in decades of gay disco tradition,” Rolling Stone commented. “‘Born This Way’ sums up all the complex Gaga myths, all her politics and Catholic angst and smeared lipstick, in one brilliant pop blast.”

Lady Gaga will perform her new song at the 53rd Grammy Awards that will be broadcast on Sunday, live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
