“This song makes me think about life .. past, present, future .. getting older and fantasies. We are the chosen ones to do the function of life.” This is what Pink Floyd fans have to say about their idols and the song “Hey You”.
A legendary rock group, Pink Floyd has influenced generations. Progressive and psychedelic rock, jazz and blues, mixed with Beatles influence have helped revolutionize rock music.
The band consisted of Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright and the late Syd Barrett, with guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour joining the group several months prior to Barrett’s departure. They made a name in the music industry due to their revolutionary compositions in classic rock style, philosophical lyrics, sound experimentation, originality, innovative covers of music albums and intense live performances.
By blending familiar genres with new sounds, they managed to plunge into the depths of experimental rock.
Pink Floyd is one of the most influential rock bands and successful groups, with sales reaching an estimated 75 million music albums in the U.S. alone, and over 200 million albums worldwide.
The album “The Wall” released in 1979 is believed by many to be the best album by Pink Floyd. Waters gives vent to his anger against the wars that broke out around the world and criticizes the way his country is run, including the education system.
Bands such as the Foo Fighters, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Mars Volta, Tool, Queensryche, Scissor Sisters, Rush, Radiohead, Gorillaz, Nine Inch Nails, Primus and the Smashing Pumpkins, have professed Pink Floyd’s influence on their music.
“This man and this song encouraged me to rise up among my guitar hero playing friends and pick up a real guitar. This song let me graduate from liking 70s rock to absolutely adoring, eating, sleeping and drinking it. This song made me love the blues and look up older artists (such as Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson) – Zeppelin are & always will be my favorite band! thanks guys!” This is what Led Zeppelin fans have to say about their idols.
A sound dominated by guitar riffs, a singer with a powerful high-pitched voice and a heavy rhythm, Led Zeppelin is considered one of the first hard rock bands, and one of the pioneers of heavy metal. Singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, drummer John Bonham and bassist John Paul Jones are the member of this legendary group.
Starting with a rock base, styles as diverse as blues, folk, reggae, soul, funk, classical, Celtic, Indian, Arabic and pop music, as well as psychedelic rock or country, have been characteristics of their concerts and their eight albums released between 1969 and 1979.
Led Zeppelin has also built its reputation on legendary live shows, owing largely to improvisation (guitar solos or extensive battery), long medleys and specially reworked interpretations of their tracks.
Thirty years after their separation, Led Zeppelin continues to be regarded as one of the greatest rock bands because of their artistic and commercial success, as well as their broad influence.
The group sold about 300 million records worldwide, including 111,5 million in the U.S., and all of their albums reached the top 10 on the American charts, six of which have been number ones. Led Zeppelin IV was the best album of all time, with sales reaching 16 million copies in three decades.
Rolling Stone magazine has described the group as “the heaviest band of all time” and “the biggest band of the ’70s.”
