Tomb Raider is inspired by a video game created by Eidos company in 1996. Angelina Jolie embodies the heroine in the first two film adaptations initiated by Paramount Pictures. The films Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) generated revenues of $ 432 million worldwide.
Producers Graham King and Tim Headington produce this new chapter with the “create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft.”
Given the involvement of Graham King in the production of The Tourist, the latest film starring Angelina Jolie, it is rumored that the actress will reprise the role of Lara Croft.
“We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the TOMB RAIDER phenomenon,” said Graham King.
However, other sources say that GK Films would be tempted to create a prequel rather than continue the adventures of the archaeologist. In this perspective, they would opt to hire a new actress.
No writer has yet been recruited.
The rights of the franchise returned to Eidos in the late 2000s. The Warner Bros. Studio was at one point interested in developing a new film but the project never saw the daylight.
