Porsche officially announced on Monday that the 918 Spyder prototype, in its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2010, will enter mass production. But Porsche will produce only 918 copies of its hybrid model, each of which will cost 645,000 euros.
Porsche 918 Spyder will have two seats and has a propulsion system consisting of a 500-hp V8 engine accompanied by two electrical units (one on each axis) which together can develop 218 hp. The batteries can be loaded into the outlet.
The hybrid system is unprecedented in the auto industry series. Thus, although its average consumption will be of only 3.0 litres/100 km, it has some top performances: 3.2 seconds for 0-100 km / h, maximum speed 320 km / h. In electric-only regime, the new Porsche 918 Spyder can run on a range of 25 kilometers, with the maximum speed reaching 150 kilometers per hour.
Customers will receive the new Porsche supercar on a “first come, first served” basis, and orders for 918 Spyder are open since yesterday. However, because mass production of the most expensive model in Porsche’s history won’t start until 18 September 2013, the German manufacturer will give customers the opportunity to invest 625,000 euros in the special edition 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder.
This model will also be produced in 918 copies, each of which will have the same serial number that their future 918 Spyder will have. A 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder costs 173,241 euros in Germany.
