George Clooney named witness at the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s trial

The news took Clooney by surprise.

“It seems odd since I’ve only met Berlusconi once and that was in an attempt to get aid into Darfur,” he told the Associated Press in a statement.

The Italian head of state will appear on April 6 in front of the Court of Milan. He is accused of paying a 17-year-old Moroccan girl called Ruby for sex and then trying to cover it up after the fact.

The actor and his girlfriend, Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis, are on the list of witnesses. Ruby claimed to have seen them at one of Berlusconi’s parties. The two stars denied they had ever attended a party thrown by Berlusconi.
