The Los Angeles Times reports Justin Bieber is on the verge of signing an agreement to play the role of the main character in this comedy from Sony Pictures.
A source close to the negotiations revealed that the project has been underway for several months and had been developed “with Bieber both in mind and on board.”
The first draft of the screenplay for What Would Kenny Do?, written in 2008, tells the story of a teenager (Justin Bieber) who has a surprising encounter with the hologram of a man in his thirties (Ashton Kutcher) claiming to be his own person. The young man’s double will try to help him overcome the challenges he faces at school.
Since then, the “(500) Days of Summer” writers Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber have written a new version of the movie where the character played by Ashton Kutcher would travel physically through time, rather than as a hologram. Sony Pictures is currently seeking a director to lead Bieber and Kutcher.
The film will be produced in collaboration with Ashton Kutcher’s company, Katalyst Entertainment, and that of Will Smith, Overbrook Entertainment.
Production should start next year, when Justin Bieber will end his My World tour.
In the meantime, fans can watch Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never flick in the comfort of their homes.
The Canadian star said Wednesday on his Twitter page that the musical film that has garnered the most revenue at the U.S. box office in its category, with 72.2 $ million, will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray starting May 13.
