A typical jump involves the existence of a plane, helicopter or hot air balloon, which can go up to a distance of 1,000 to 4,000 feet off the ground. If the jump is made from a low altitude, the parachute is immediately opened. If it’s made from a high altitude, the skydiver can have a freefall for about 1 minute before opening the parachute.
Melbourne Skydive Centre is known for demonstrations of parachuting, as well as tandem jumps for adrenaline seekers. To illustrate the experiences of skydiving enthusiasts, they filmed a short video presentation, a few kilometers above the ground.
If you’re curious about what it feels like to jump from a plane thousands of feet in the air, but don’t intend to experience that too soon, the video below shows the feelings skydivers get when flying above the world.
