President Obama announces Osama bin Laden’s death

Barack Obama, President of the United States, has given a speech at the White House on Monday, May 2, twelve hours after the announcement of bin Laden’s death, calling the event “the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat al Qaeda.”

During the night, Barack Obama had himself announced the death of bin Laden: “Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men.”
