The entire America has closely followed the court case of Casey Anthony, a young woman who is accused of murdering her 2-year-old daughter.
People traveled from all over the country to attend the trial of Casey Anthony, 25, in the hope to see her in flesh and bone.
The body of the girl, Caylee Anthony, was found near the family home. The police later found traces of chloroform in the trunk of Casey Anthony, a product she had taken from the Internet.
Casey Anthony pleaded not guilty, accusing the baby-sitter. However, evidence showed she had waited one month before reporting the disappearance of her daughter, a period which she scoured the bars at night in Florida.
On Monday, Anthony’s defense claimed Caylee accidentally drowned in the family’s pool. They said her mother panicked and that her father, a former police officer, decided to make the death look like a homicide by placing duct tape over the child’s mouth and hiding the body.
Her father, George Anthony, has denied that.
“That’s absurd. Nothing has been presented to you to make that any less absurd,” Prosecutor Jeff Ashton told the jurors.
If found guilty, Anthony will be charged with first-degree murder and six other charges. If convicted of first-degree murder, she could be sentenced to death or life in prison.
The jury is made up of seven women and five men coming from the area of Tampa Bay. They have the entire 23rd floor of an Orlando hotel to consider the evidence after 33 days of testimony and two days of closing arguments.
The trial is scheduled to end in mid-July.
