The initiative is meant to reduce the number of cars in the city. In this regard, citizens are invited to register by the end of June to get a lifetime travel pass for the city’s new tram in exchange for their own cars. However, the car has to be functional and have the equivalent of an MOT.
The cars were shown to the public who was invited to comment on Facebook and Twitter. For each comment received the mechanics removed a piece of one of the cars until they were completely vanished from the city.
As an incentive, some cars were located in unusual places to illustrate how difficult it was to find parking.
When the cars are gone, the owners receive a travel pass for the rest of their lives, no matter their age.
This campaign in the Spanish city of Murcia was conducted for a limited period of time.
