Ja Rule sentenced to 28 months in prison on tax charges

He pleaded guilty and admitted that during 2004 – 2008 he had not declared. Ja Rule has been ordered to pay back $1.1 million, said federal prosecutor in New Jersey in a statement.

“Taxpayers do not have the luxury of deciding whether to comply with laws,” said U.S. Magistrate Judge Patty Shwart.

The singer is in prison in New York, from early June, after pleading guilty in December, serving a different sentence for carrying a semiautomatic firearm. Ja Rule was arrested after police found a semiautomatic firearm in his car after a concert by Lil Wayne in Manhattan, New York, in 2007.

Ja Rule was sentenced to two years in prison and 18 months probation.
