Louise Mensch, a Conservative member of Parliament on the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, claims that in his 2005 book “The Insider: The Private Diaries of a Scandalous Decade,” Piers Morgan had boasted about using a phone hacking “little trick.”
She said: “[Morgan] said in his book ‘The Insider’ recently, and I quote, that that little trick of entering a standard four-digit code allows anyone to call that number and hear your messages…”
In response to the accusation, the TV host tweeted: “That MP just claimed I boasted in my book of using phone-hacking for a scoop. Complete nonsense. Just read the book. I’ve never hacked a phone, told anyone to hack a phone, or published any stories based on the hacking of a phone.”
For two years in the 1990s, Piers Morgan was editor at News of the World, the British tabloid that has stopped its publication on July 10 in the wake of a phone tapping scandal.
