Trixi Chall, who has worked for the German tabloid Bild for over two decades, says she was in Monte Carlo in the summer of 1997, at the same time with the famous couple.
Se claims saw Diana pointing at and picking out a diamond ring in a jewelry store window.
Subsequently, Dodi Al-Fayed made arrangements to send the ring, worth £11,500 from the Repossi jewelry in Monte Carlo to its Paris subsidiary. The ring was then delivered at the Ritz hotel in Paris , just hours before Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed died in that car accident.
Trixi Chall’s statements support allegations made by tycoon Mohamed Al-Fayed, Dodi’s father, who has claimed that his son and Diana were murdered in a plot intended to prevent a British princess from marrying a Muslim.
Trixi Chall was walking in Monte Carlo in the morning of Saturday, August 23, 1997. As she came out of an electrical store, the journalist saw Lady Di holding hands with boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed.
“It was amazing because there were no bodyguards. I was stunned as they looked like a very normal young couple in love, rather like naughty teenagers. I just remained on the other side of the road and they walked on a bit ahead of me,” Chall said.
“She was so beautiful and so happy and at one point he put his arm around her shoulder and I felt I could cry. I thought to myself, ‘Thank God she’s found a man.’”
“They were dressed very casually and no one paid any attention to them. I was fascinated and he looked kind, which was nice to see. I felt that love was in the air.”
She continued: “Nobody else was aware of them and they were aware of nobody, as if they were the only ones in the world. They were not in any hurry, were chatting happily and strolling casually.”
“They went to the shop on the left of the Hermitage hotel. They looked in the window and Diana was pointing with her finger at something. I saw them entering the shop.”
Claude Roulette, executive director of the Ritz hotel in Paris , confirmed that Dodi Al-Fayed gave Diana that ring, just hours before the fatal accident.
