Richard Branson is thankful to Kate Winslet for rescuing his 90-year-old mother when a fire broke out at his residence, in which the actress was staying.
The Virgin Group CEO indicated that about 20 people, including Kate Winslet, her two children – Mia, 10, and Joe, 7, and his mother were in the mansion on the Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands , when lightning struck.
The family, who was spending a peaceful stay at the British billionaire’s resort, was evacuated Monday around 4 am . A fire had broken out after as Tropical Storm Irene passed over Necker Island .
“Many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping to carry my 90-year mum out of the main house to safety,” Branson, 61, wrote on his blog Monday.
Branson was staying in the house next door at the time.
“We will rebuild the house as soon as we can,” he promised. “We have a wonderful staff here and we want them to stay in work. … There’s a lot of damage but we’ll create something even more special out of the ruins.”
He added: “Currently just huddled up with family and friends in the continuing tropical storm realising what really matters in life.”
