At Sunday night’s edition of VMA, Lady Gaga appeared on stage as her male alter-ego Joe Calderone.
Looking much like John Travolta in Grease, Gaga wore a loose black suit and T-shirt with slicked-back dark hair and had a lit cigarette.
She sat at the piano and began to perform her song You and I, accompanied by a group of dancers and Brian May, legendary guitarist of the band Queen.
However, viewers accused her of plagiarizing Annie Lennox’s performance of Sweet Dreams at the 1984 Grammy Awards.
Among her detractors was Kelly Osbourne who took to Twitter to express her disapproval.
“I love lady gaga but I wish she would start giving credit where credit is due!” Kelly wrote, posting a link to a YouTube clip of Lennox ‘s performance.
This isn’t the first time Lady Gaga is criticized for being unoriginal. Some argue that her song Born This Way copied Madonna’s Express Yourself hit from the 80s. In addition, Bette Midler recently accused her of imitating her mermaid in a wheelchair stage routine.
