Carla Bruni-Sarkozy announces the name of her newborn daughter: Giulia

“I am deeply touched by the many messages of congratulations that I have received since the birth of our daughter Giulia,” Bruni wrote on her website

“On this happy occasion, my husband joins me in expressing our warmest thanks to all those of you who sent us these tokens of your kindness.”

Earlier her husband Nicolas Sarkozy spoke of his “very deep joy” at the birth of his daughter.

“All the parents here can understand our deep joy, a joy all the more profound as it is private,” Sarkozy told reporters during a trip to northwestern France .

“We have been lucky to have a very happy event take place,” he said, as he received a baby oak tree as a present for his daughter from a local factory director.

“I will just keep to these few brief words to say to you that they are doing very well.”

As the Elysee announced in advance, no official communication has accompanied the birth of the child and confirmation came on Wednesday evening from the presidential couple’s entourage.

This is the first time in the history of the French Republic that a president becomes a father while in office.

As we previously reported, President Nicolas Sarkozy’s wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has given birth to a baby girl on Wednesday evening. The French press has confirmed the news.
