Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut: see the trailer for In The Land Of Blood And Honey

Besides moving behind the camera, Jolie also wrote the script of the film. The movie tells a love story set during the Bosnian war. A Serb and a Muslim fall in love before being separated by the conflict.

To increase the credibility of the story, Angelina hired actors from Bosnia to interpret the main roles: Zana Marjanovic, 28, and Goran Kostic, 39.

“All information was hidden,” Kostic recently told Vanity Fair. “It was obvious it was somebody big. You’re an actor, you audition, and they don’t tell you who it is, you know it’s somebody from the top. I had no idea. Nor did I want to speculate. I did what I had to do. Later, when they told us Angelina Jolie wrote the script, I was quite pleasantly surprised to see how she was able to put all of it together.”

The filming of In the Land of Blood and Honey took place in Bosnia in late 2010.

Bosnian authorities had revoked permission to shoot a few days before the start of production since local women who had been victims of rape were strongly opposed to the project.
