“I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision,” Kim Kardashian said in a statement to E!, which airs her reality shows. “I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”
“I’ve spoken to her briefly and she says she’s sad and got caught up in all that was going on,” Ryan Seacrest, who produces her show, said on his KIIS-FM radio program Monday morning.
The reality star listed the date of separation Oct. 31, 2011 , citing the usual “irreconcilable differences,” according to her Los Angeles Superior Court filing.
The papers also mention the existence of a prenuptial agreement between and that Kim won’t pay spousal support to her ex-husband.
Kardashian hired Laura Wasser, a lawyer specializing in family law who has represented several high-profile Hollywood stars during the past decade, including Britney Spears, Maria Shriver, Angelina Jolie and Ryan Reynolds.
According to reports, Kim wanted to stay in Los Angeles with her family while Kris longed to return to his hometown in Minneapolis , Minnesota .
Kim and Kris announced their engagement in May after six months of dating and tied the knot on August 20 in the presence of almost 450 guests, including Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan, Eva Longoria, Seacrest, Mario Lopez, Julianne Hough and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds .
After a short honeymoon, the couple headed to the Big Apple to film the second season of “Kourtney and Kim Take New York.”
Rumors of separation have been rife in recent weeks. Speculation started to grow after Kim showed up at various events without Kris. In addition, they were spotted without their wedding rings on several occasions.
