60 Minutes commentator Andy Rooney dies at 92

In late September, CBS announced that Mr. Rooney would be making his last regular weekly appearance on “60 Minutes” on Oct. 2. But three weeks later, the network said Rooney was hospitalized after developing serious complications after minor surgery.

Andy Rooney was a political commentator whose sometimes contentious tone led to his being suspended by CBS.

He began his career in journalism during the Second World War. He joined the CBS team in 1949 as a writer and wrote for many shows and celebrities over the years.

In 1978, Rooney became a commentator on 60 Minutes, where he eventually spent the past 33 years of his life until October 2011.

A widower since 2004, he is survived by his four children.
