Heavy D dead at 44

The rapper, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, was found unconscious outside his home in Beverly Hills at 11am local time. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1 pm.

According to Lieutenant Mark Rosen, of the police in Beverly Hills , police were dispatched on Tuesday morning at the apartment complex where the musician lived after neighbors had reported the presence of an unconscious person on the sidewalk.

When paramedics arrived, the singer was conscious and able to communicate, but he was having trouble breathing. He was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center where he later passed away.

Police are investigating the causes of death. According to sources, it could be complications from pneumonia he caught recently in Europe.

“There are no obvious signs of foul play, and at this time his death is believed to be medically related,” police say in a statement.

Born in New York , Dwight Arrington Myers became famous under the name Heavy D as a member of the group Heavy D & the Boyz in the late 1980s.

He is known for working with Michael Jackson on Jam and reaching the top 5 US charts three times, with Now That We Found Love in 1991, Got Me Waiting in 1994 and Big Daddy in 1997.
