Legend of the year: Freddie Mercury vs. Michael Jackson vs. Elvis Presley

Freddie Mercury

2011 marked 20 years since Freddie’s passing.

In memory of the anniversary, the Mercury Phoenix Trust has launched a unique initiative called The Global Charity Network. The charity will continue to fight AIDS worldwide in honor of the artist.

In addition, this year marked what would have been Freddie’s 65th birthday. In his memory, Lotus has created a special edition of the Evora S model as a tribute to the lead singer of Queen. The car was customized in the spirit of the costumes worn by Freddie on stage.

Google also celebrated his 65th birthday with a cartoon video doodle set to Queen’s hit Don’t Stop Me Now.

Michael Jackson

The show “The Immortal Michael Jackson World Tour” by Cirque du Soleil premiered at the Bell Center in October 2011.

After performing shows inspired by the music of Elvis Presley and The Beatles, Cirque du Soleil has prepared a show about the life and music of Michael Jackson.

Unlike the previous two shows, which were held in Las Vegas, the show called “The Immortal Michael Jackson World Tour” is designed to tour.

The stage is centered around a tree, called The Giving Tree, which represented one of the great oaks of Neverland, an inspiration for the King of Pop.

Also, tens of thousands of fans attended the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert in October to honor the legacy of the late King of Pop.

Elvis Presley

A deluxe five-disc Elvis 1956 package, titled Young Man with the Beat: The Complete ’56 Elvis Presley Masters, was released September 27.

The disc box set contains interviews and live and studio recordings of 21-year-old Elvis, as well as his phenomenal influence on American culture.

In addition, Riley Keough, Elvis’ granddaughter, is honoring his legacy in a new campaign for Lee Jeans. Immortalized by the photographer Terry Richardson, the 21-year-old tilted the collar of her jacket in the same way as her unforgettable grandfather during his concerts in the 1950s.

Celebrity rumors of the year: Katy Perry, Kate Middleton, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Aniston, Shakira, Angelina Jolie and others

Loved or hated, one thing is sure: these celebrities are always in the spotlight.

Katy Perry

The Fireworks singer and her comedian hubby have been the target of a series of divorce rumors lately.

The latest buzz alleges that the two spent Christmas separately as Katy went to Hawaii, while Russell remained in England to party. In addition, both were seen without their wedding rings.

Yet, Russell Brand has recently denied rumors of separation in a November interview with Ellen DeGeneres, saying the Internet is full of lies.

Kate Middleton

After the royal wedding buzz slowly cooled down, the press started speculating about a possible heir to the throne.

And if a royal baby were to arrive soon, he or she would quickly ascend to the throne.

Queen Elizabeth II and the Commonwealth have agreed to change certain rules in the British Monarchy. Not only the heir to the throne could now be a girl, but the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be allowed to marry a Catholic.

Beyoncé

Back in October, the media went wild with rumors that the 30-year-old singer is using a prosthetic stomach and that a surrogate is carrying her child.

The confusion increased when B appeared in a 30-second video shot on September 23 and ion which she states that she is 6 months pregnant, meaning she should give birth in December.

Given that she previosuly announced her due date to be February 2012, the clip actually cast more doubt on her pregnancy.

January Jones

January Jones, who gave birth to a baby boy named Xander on September 13, has kept the father’s identity secret. On October 17, the website BlindGossip.com ran a blind item about an unnamed actress’ pregnancy.

“This married actor had a one-night stand with one of his exes, who is an actress in an acclaimed television show. She wound up pregnant. The actor’s wife found out about the baby, and, to no one’s surprise, went completely ballistic. Both the actor and his wife tried every tactic (money, lawyers, threats to ruin her career) to convince the ex to terminate the pregnancy,” Fox News quoted the website as saying.

The online gossip blogger Michael K. of DListed.com posted an item that said “all signs point to January Jones.”

Many assume that the “married actor” is Ashton Kutcher, the “ex” is January Jones and the “actor’s wife” is Demi Moore, who has recently filed for divorce.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber had his share of scandal this year after 20-year-old Mariah Yeater claimed that the singer, who currently dates Selena Gomez, is the father of her three-month-old baby and demanded a paternity test.

The teen singer accepted to take a paternity test to prove that he’s not the father of Yeater’s baby, Tristyn.

Yeater eventually dropped her request for paternity testing.

Jennifer Aniston

The actress is another celebrity who has been at the heart of pregnancy and marriage rumors. During a recent press conference, the 42-year-old tried to set the record straight.

“Rumor number one: I am not planning to get married any time soon,” she told Hello! Magazine. “I’ve been married once, and I don’t know if I’ll get married again. But I can tell you that as of this very moment, I have no plan to get married. Got that?”

She continued: “And rumor Number two: no, we’re not pregnant. It’s just I quit smoking, so I’ve gained a couple of pounds.”

Angelina Jolie

The 36-year-old actress had to constantly deny marriage rumors in the past year. According to various sources close to the couple, they don’t plan to tie the knot any time soon.

Even though in an interview with USA Weekend Pitt admitted, “The kids ask about marriage. It’s meaning more and more to them. So it’s something we’ve got to look at,” the two actors are reportedly currently too busy switching between movie sets and spending time with their brood of six.

However, they are said to remain open to the idea of one day walking down the aisle.

Jennifer Lopez

Recently, we reported that JLo was hooking up with one of her backup dancers, Casper Smart, 24.

According to reports, the two have been seen together in New York recently, trying to avoid the photographers, and are rumored to have been secretly dating for a few weeks now.

However, according to a source familiar with the situation, it’s “nothing serious” for the pair, at least for now.

iPhone 5 release date: rumors of the year

InRumor offers you a recap of the juiciest iPhone 5 rumors of 2011.

iPhone 5 to launch Sept. 5 in the US, Oct. 5 in Europe?

Reports surfaced in July about a senior Swisscom executive claiming that the smartphone would have separate launch dates in the US and Europe, namely September 5 for the US and October 5 for Europe.

Since it was absent from the WWDC in June, the iPhone 5 was said to arrive on September 5.

However, it was during the same the conference that Apple mentioned a “product transition” in the fall.

iPhone 5 to arrive Oct. 15, said France Telecom CEO Stéphane Richard

The head of France Telecom – Orange, Stéphane Richard, caused a frenzy in September whe he mentioned the upcoming release of the highly anticipated new smartphone from Apple.

“If we believe what we have been told, the iPhone 5 will be released on 15 October,” he told a small group of French reporters on September 16.

“If the date is confirmed, it will definitely be in France Telecom stores,” he added, concluding with a mysterious, “We shall see.”

iPhone 5 to be unveiled in the first half of October

A week later, speculation was rife that the handset would be released in the first half of October.

Based on rumors about the Apple management banning employees from going on vacation between 9 and 12 October (a period they called “special”) and between 14 and 15 October, many assumed the gadget would arrive on or before October 10.

Al Gore hinted about the “new iPhones” in October

Adding to the speculation, the former vice president of the United States of America and current member of the board of Apple, slipped what seems to an Apple secret.

While speaking at the Discovery Invest Leadership Summit in South Africa , Gore fueled speculation that Apple might introduce more than one model in October.

It was enough to consider at least two models: a redesigned iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S based on the current iPhone 4 design.

Apple confirmed October 4 event with “Let’s talk iPhone” invitations

Finally, the various rumors circulating on the net were confirmed by the invitations sent to selected members of the press.

The device was expected to be “thinner and lighter” than the iPhone 4. In addition, a 1GB of RAM and a voice-control system known as the Assistant were said to be some of the gadget’s features.

“Let’s talk iPhone,” the invitation read, which requests participants to be at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino on Oct. 4 at 10 am.

iPhone 5 release date rumored to be delayed to 2012

After Tim Cook finally introduced the iPhone 4S but not the long-awaited iPhone 5, much to the disappointment of fans, analysts speculated that the reason why the world didn’t see the iPhone 5 in October was because Apple’s device depends on the LTE 4G technology.

Will Strauss, president of wireless chip market research firm Forward Concepts, said Apple was likely to release the iPhone 5 in spring 2012, when LTE chipsets will be available for thin smartphones.

Moreover, back in April, CEO Tim Cook said that the “first generation of LTE chipsets force a lot of design compromises.”

iPhone 5 was Steve Jobs’ signature project before death

A day after the launch of the iPhone 4S on Oct. 4, news broke that the visionary head of Apple had passed away after a long battle with cancer.

The following week, Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar claimed that the iPhone 5 was the last project that he focused on until his final days.

The analyst said that from the concept to the final design Jobs followed “closely” all the steps, which should make it “cult classic” at the time of its release, probably in the summer of 2012.

iPhone 5 features rumored to be introduced next year

In anticipation of Apple’s next handset, rumors were flying in late Ocotber about the possible features of the iPhone 5.

Beatweek Magazine believed that a new body style for the gadget is “almost a given.”

In addition, according to The International Business Times, possible features could include a SIM-less design, a curved glass display, a slimmer body with an aluminum plate casing, an A5 chip, wireless charging and LTE compatibility.

CNET also reported that Apple is expected to unveil a 4G iPhone next year to respond to competitors in the LTE smartphone market.

Apple to release iPad Mini and 4-inch iPhone 5 in 2012?

In November, The Korea Times reported that a senior at LG confirmed that Samsung is currently working on new display that will power the next iPhone 5.

Apple was rumored to be negotiating a $1.1 billion deal with a view to equipping its smartphone with a 4-inch screen instead of the previous 3.5 inches, and the iPad with a 7.35 inches display in addition to the existing 10-inch format.

iPhone 5, iPad 3 references included in iOS 5.1 beta

When the iOS 5.1 was released in late November it was revealed that its code contained references to the iPhone 5 and 2 iPads, internally named iPhone 5,1, iPad 2,4 and iPad 3,3, respectively.

Given that the iPhone 4S was previously listed internally as iPhone 4,1, this reference to iPhone 5,1 is believed to cite the next-generation iPhone model.

Even though no precise details regarding the new devices are offered, the data can help form an idea of Apple’s future release schedule.

iPhone 5 could be released Oct. 5 2012 to commemorate Steve Jobs’ death

According to Apple Biter’s Blog at iPhone5Reviewed.com, Apple could be planning to mark the first anniversary of Steve Jobs’ death with the release of the much-awaited iPhone 5.

Since Jobs closely followed all the steps of the production of the iPhone 5 in the last days of his life, his involvement in the product should make it “cult classic” at the time of its release, probably in the summer of 2012.

Because of this, the blog speculated that the date of the launch for the iPhone 5 could be pushed to October in commemoration of the death of Apple’s co-founder.

iPhone 5 with aluminum back and complete new design coming in fall 2012

According to the latest Apple rumors, the iPhone 5 will likely feature an aluminum rear panel and rubber bezel in the fall of 2012.

BGR speculates that the new materials could help join the front glass and the aluminum back, all of which will cover a redesigned antenna system that surrounds the device.

This way, the company won’t have to use a large plastic insert above the antennas as is the case on the iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G.

iPhone, iPad batteries to last for weeks thanks to fuel cells

According to two patent applications filed by Apple, future iPhones, iPads, MacBooks and iPods could function on hydrogen fuel cells.

The result would be that a battery could last for hours, days, weeks and maybe even months, without having to recharge.

“Such fuel cells and associated fuels can potentially achieve high volumetric and gravimetric energy densities, which can potentially enable continued operation of portable electronic devices for days or even weeks without refueling,” Apple said.

According to sources cited by BGR, the next-generation iPhone will “use a rubber or plastic material — similar to the material used in the company’s bumper cases — that will be built into the new iPhone case.”

In addition, the rear panel could be made of aluminum. This body will help cover a redesigned antenna system that surrounds the device.

The handset is also said to sport a 4-inch display with the same resolution and a faster processor.

Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana are dating, report says

According to E! Online, Bradley Cooper is in a relationship with Zoe Saldana, the actress that played the role of Neytiri in Avatar.

Last month, the two were spotted at a club in New York City.

Although her rep denied allegations that they are a pair, a source told the website that they are now “totally dating.”

The two actors are even said to be planning to go on a ski trip together in the Rockies during the holiday season.

The two stars are single: Zoe Saldana left Star trek actor Keith Britton after eleven years together, and Bradley Cooper is no longer dating Jennifer Lopez.

Bradley, 36, and Zoe, 33, co-stared in upcoming film The Words. The shooting involved a lot of kissing, an experience that clearly drew them closer to each other.

Kate and Pippa Middleton are top beauty icons of 2011

Cheryl Cole, who topped the ranking last year, finds herself in the third position before Rihanna.

TV presenter Holly Willoughby and British singer Tulisa Contostavlos came fifth and sixth.

Beyoncé, Emma Watson, Katy Perry and Victoria Beckham are, in turn, in the top 10 beauty icons of 2011.

Beyoncé pregnant: the singer about to give birth?

According to MediaTakeOut.com, nurses at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital are on alert in anticipation of the arrival of a VIP. Reports have surfaced, saying that half the floor of the Labor and Delivery Suite has been booked in anticipation.

Although the identity of the celebrity hasn’t been confirmed, the site is certain that it’s Beyoncé.

News about the pregnancy has been so far quite contradictory. The wildest rumors were saying the star actually had a fake baby bump and that she used a surrogate mother. Also, she was initially rumored to be due in February.

Back in September, the 30-year-old singer appeared in a clip from her Live at Roseland DVD, saying: “Hello! It’s September 23rd … Right now I’m actually shooting the video for ‘Countdown’ and I’m six months pregnant, pretending that my stomach is flat in body suits.”

3 months have passed since the moment the video was shot which would mean that Beyoncé is expected to give birth any day now.

In addition, the New York Post reports that Beyoncé was overheard saying that her pregnancy was “the best Christmas present possible,” adding to the speculation that baby could be born in late December or early January.

iPhone app downloads reached 5 million in November

According to data from marketing firm Fiksu, this was all thanks to the successful launches of the iPhone 4S and the iOS 5, which upped downloads to 83 % higher than the same time in 2010.

In all, an average of 5.65 million per day was recorded for November. In October, the App Store Top 200 had 4.91 million free app downloads per day.

“As expected, and as we’ve seen before with new device launches, new owners’ enthusiasm is high and their appetite for app discovery and engagement is strong,” Fiksu noted. “This bears out in the numbers with daily app downloads hitting a new, all-time record peak reflecting heightened competition for rank in the Apple App Store. Additionally, the rapid adoption of iOS 5–and corresponding app updates–played a key role in this continued escalation in November.”

In addition, according to Fiksu’s Cost per Loyal User Index, which measures the amount of money brands have to spend to keep users loyal, it is revealed that cost was an average $1.64 per user in September 2011, then dropped to $1.47 in October and $1.43 in November.
