DigiTimes is reporting that Apple will be launching a smaller iPad in 2012, most probably called iPad 3. According to reports, the device will have a 10 inch display and a resolution increased to 2048 x 1536 pixels.
The tablet is likely to include features such as Siri, iCloud and a thicker chassis (0.7mm), as well as an A6 processor and a 128 GB memory.
The site also adds that Apple will likely introduce a mini version of the iPad, sporting a screen size reduction from 9.7″ to 7.85″, before the fourth quarter of next year.
In addition, DigiTimes claims that Apple will buy the 7.85-inch panels from LG Display and AU Optronics.
The release of the down-sized version of the iPad is said to be a response to the competition from devices such as Amazon’s 7-inch Kindle Fire tablet.
According to new research, 60 million tablets will have been purchased by the end of 2011, out of which 70% will be Apple’s products.
