According to Taiwan-based component makers cited by DigiTimes, the iPad 3 is rumored to launch in March.
The device is expected to feature a high-resolution Retina Display, similar to the one found on the iPhone and iPod touch.
But most importantly, the report claimed that an iPad 4 with “killer applications” is set to be released in October.
Apple’s motivation behind this would be that the company wants to address competition coming from a rumored Google tablet and touchscreen devices powered by Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system.
The site also reports that the iPad 4 will feature “much upgraded hardware specifications and integrated applications so as to compete with an array of Android-, Wintel- or WoA (Windows on ARM)-based tablet PCs to be released in the fourth quarter.”
