The 23-year-old beat Miss Oklahoma, Betty Thompson, and Miss New York, Kaitlin Monte.
53 young women competed last night and were subjected to various tests including a parade in bikini, opera singing, as well as commenting on American politics.
“Miss America represents everyone, so I think the message to political candidates is that they represent everyone as well,” she said.
“And so in these economic times, we need to be looking forward to what America needs, and I think Miss America needs to represent all.”
In the year ahead, Kaeppeli will make numerous trips across the country. As part of a charitable mission, she will raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, the Miss America Organization’s official charity.
Besides winning the crown, she also got away with a $50,000 scholarship.
