iPhone 5 rumors: Apple patent reveals 3D eye-tracking technology

The patent describes a system that relies on sensors which track the position of a user’s eyes with the front facing camera.

The technology uses data provided by the devices accelerometer, compass, gyrometer and its GPS in order to create the perfect 3D image.

The technique could create a “virtual 3D operating system environment,” according to the filing, which would allow a user to “look around” the interface on their display.

The patent says that this interface could be applied to phones, tablets, portable music devices, televisions, gaming devices, laptops or desktops.

The patent application was filed in the third quarter of 2010 and it isn’t certain if Apple is working on the technology.
