Grammys 2012: Adele wins six awards, Jennifer Hudson pays tribute to Whitney Houston

The 23-year-old singer had one of the best performances of the night, as she sang her hit song “Rolling in the Deep.”

Adele tearfully expressed her gratitude when she accepted the Album of the Year Award for “21”.

“This record is inspired by something that is really normal and everyone’s been through it — just a rubbish relationship,” the 23-year-old singer said. “It’s gone on to do things that I can’t tell you how I feel about them. “It’s been the most life-changing year,” Adele said, visible excited.

However it was also a sad night due to Whitney Houston’s passing. The ceremony opened in a sober mood as Grammy hosst LL Cool J and Jennifer Hudson honored the memory of the late singer. Hudson took the stage to perform Whitney’s song “I Will Always Love You.”

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry also performed last night, Perry singing her new single “Part of Me” and Taylor, who won two Grammys for Best Country Song and Best Country Performance, performed her song “Mean”.

Foo Fighters, also with six nominations, were among the other winners of the gala, with five Grammys, while Kanye West went home with four awards.

The trophy for the Best New Artist, which Adele received in 2009, was won this year by Bon Iver, who also won the award for Alternative Music Album (“Bon Iver”).

Glen Campbell, who sang the song “Rhinestone Cowboy”, received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
