Shim also said that production could begin in April, with an initial package of 1.5 to 2 million units.
Rumors of Google’s own-branded tablet were sparked in December when Eric Schmidt, former CEO and chairman of Google, hinted that the company was preparing “a tablet of the highest quality.”
The device is rumored to include Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, as well as a dual core processor and 1GB RAM.
This confirms the view that the product will be competing against Amazon’s Kindle Fire rather than against Apple’s next iPad.
In January it was reported that Google may price its tablet at $199 in order to rival against Kindle Fire ($199) and the Nook Tablet ($250) from Barnes and Noble.
“I don’t know how they plan on marketing it,” Shim said. “If it’s going to be a premium device, or if it’s going to be a Kindle Fire type competitor.”
