According to a report by Digitimes, analysts believe competition will force notebook brands to reduce the thickness of 15-inch notebooks.
“As Apple will launch its updated MacBook Pro, while notebook brand vendors are aggressively pushing 15-inch ultrabooks, market watchers believe the competition will help reduce the overall thickness of 15-inch notebook models,” the Digitimes article states.
The report notes that Acer’s 15-inch ultrabook entered production last month and shipment volumes are set to reach 100,000 units.
At the same time, the same brand’s Ultra Slim models will see a shipment volume of 400,000-600,000 units each month.
The site also writes that Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pro is set to upgrade to an ultra-thin design.
Hewlett-Packard (HP), Asustek Computer and Lenovo are also expected to launch Ultra Slim models.
These versions are thinner and lighter than notebooks but slightly thicker than ultrabooks.
