JP Morgan’s Mark Moskowitz said Thursday that he doesn’t think Cupertino will not launch the iTV television sets until 2014.
“We are not sure that the Apple premium could prevail in the TV market, unless there is a radical change of the user interface, integration of the TV programming and data content, and use of gesture or voice control,” the analyst wrote in a note to investors.
Moskowitz believes that an iTV isn’t likely to hit the market until 2014 due to economic conditions, given the long development period for the iPhone and iPad.
”We believe Apple can design a smarter set top box to manage all components behind the end user’s TV experience, as well as eliminate the oft-cumbersome user interface provided by the cable and satellite operators,” he said.
The analyst estimates that Apple has to work more on the voice controls, a better integrated content and TV programming and bring a radical change to the user interface.
“Until such time, we are skeptical that end customers would be willing to pay the Apple premium for a TV,” he said.
