iPhone 5 release date rumors for October, “true world phone” compatible with China Mobile – analyst

In a note to investors on Thursday Sterne Agee’s Shaw Wu wrote that he expects the next iPhone to launch with support for China’s Mobile proprietary 3G network, which would make it a “true world phone.”

China Mobile is the world’s largest cell provider, with a whopping 650 million customers.

“We believe these new features will likely help drive a significant upgrade and new user cycle more powerful than what we saw with the iPhone 4 and 4S,” Wu wrote.

“This is more of a function of the transition ahead of the upcoming 6th generation iPhone refresh likely in October timeframe as opposed to weak demand.”

The analyst also estimated that the future iPhone will feature a refreshed form factor, a larger screen and a 4G LTE wireless modem.

Wu expects Apple to launch the iPhone 5 to in October, a full year after the release of the iPhone 4S.

He also estimates that the Cupertino tech giant will sell 27 million iPhones in the June quarter, and 25 million in the September quarter.
