Well, scientists have recently discovered a new molecule that promises to radically change this fear.
The molecule, called “Keep 32,” makes teeth immune to cavities.
“Keep 32” kills the bacteria that produce cavities, Streptococcus Mutans, in just 60 seconds.
The creators of this molecule, Jose Cordoba from Yale University and Erich Astudillo from the University of Santiago, Chile, have discovered that the molecule can be added to any dental care product, like toothpaste, mouthwash and even sweets or chewing gum.
The molecule will take 60 seconds to remove bacteria leading to cavities in the patient’s mouth and prevent their recurrence for several hours.
The research began in 2005, and the two scientists hope to release a product in 14-18 months.
Once their product will get all the necessary safety tests, the two plan to offer licenses for this giant molecule to several companies, including Colgate, P & G, Cadbury or Hershey’s.
The two expect to obtain about $ 300 million in the first five years.
