Speaking to MacRumors, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple will likely debut the iPhone 5 in September and the company could use the same timeframe for the release of the mini version of the iPad.

Kuo estimates that the 7.85-inch tablet will sell 1.8 million units to the end of the quarter after its launch.

However, he believes the device but will overtake the iPad in Q4 with sales of over 13 million units.

The analyst also speculates that Cupertino will give the new iPad wil get an internal redesign to address thermal issues and reduce costs.

According to his sources, these internal updates will be invisible to customers.

“Though shipments of iPad mini’s components will start in August, the new iPad line will end production, ready for transition to a modified new iPad line,” Kuo says.

“As such, component shipments will drop in Augusts as iPad mini’s components shipments growth will be offset. On a side note, the modified new iPad shares the same exterior as the original model, but contains modifications to correct its thermal dissipation problem and lower-cost components.”

Kuo predicts massive iPhone and iPad sales for the final quarter of 2012, with iPhone sales scoring 55 million units and the iPad nearing 24 million units.
