The Wall Street Journal
reports that the company’s production of the displays is behind schedule due to low production yields.

The publication also writes that LG and Japan Display have already begun shipping the new screens to Apple.

The source didn’t mention how far behind the schedule the production at Sharp is or whether this will affect the launch of the device.

WSJ’s insider also stated that “manufacturing problems” were also to blame for the delay.

On August 2, Sharp President Takashi Okuda announced that the company would begin production and shipment of new screens at its Kameyama LCD plant in central Japan this month.

Kameyama “is operational,” according to Sharp spokeswoman Miyuki Nakayama, as cited by Reuters.

Apple is rumored to be planning a Sept. 12 event, which many believe will be the launch of the iPhone 5.
