iPhone 5 release date will prompt Apple to drop iPhone 3GS

Citing anonymous sources “close to retailers,” The Telegraph reports that Apple will retire the iPhone 3GS at the live keynote scheduled for next Wednesday.

The insiders also shared that Apple may launch an 8GB version of the iPhone 4S which could replace the 3GS.

Cupertino is also rumored to offer an 8GB iPhone 4S to fill the gap between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 3GS was unveiled in June 2009 with 16 GB and 32 GB models priced at US$199 and $299, respectively.

As for the sixth-generation iPhone, it will likely come in capacities of 16GB , 32GB and 64GB.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 5 on Sept. 12 at a live keynote in San Francisco.
