Apple’s official specs page for the device reveals that there will be separate CDMA and GSM versions of the smartphone.
The Verge reports that the A1428 GSM and A1429 CDMA models work on different bands for the carriers offering the iPhone 5.
A second A1429 model offering support for more GSM bands than the A1428 version is also listed.
According to the specs revealed by Apple, AT&T and Canadian operators will provide the A1428, while Sprint and Verizon in the US and KDDI in Japan will bring the A1429.
The site notes that this makes it difficult to transfer an iPhone 5 from one carrier to another.
