Various users reported unexpectedly high data usage in the short amount of time since they owned their handsets and wanted to know whether the data consumed would be chargable due to the issue.
The carrier has now issued a statement to The Loop in which they announce that consumers won’t be charged for this data usage.
“Under certain circumstances, iPhone 5 may use Verizon cellular data while the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network,” the statement read. “Apple has a fix that is being delivered to Verizon customers right on their iPhone 5. Verizon Wireless customers will not be charged for any unwarranted cellular data usage.”
The problem is solved by going to Settings > General > About on the iPhone 5 and waiting for a message to appear. Tap OK to install the update.
