iPhone 5 camera purple halo effect in photos acknowledged by Apple, recommended using new iPhone otherwise

A Gizmodo reader sent an e-mail to Apple’s support team that knew about the issue and the solution received from them was to “angle the camera away from the bright light source when taking pictures.”

Dear Matt,

Our engineering team just gave me this information and we recommend that you angle the camera away from the bright light source when taking pictures. The purple flare in the image provided is considered normal behavior for iPhone 5’s camera.
