According to sources cited by The Guardian, Apple will be able to “produce [the iPad mini] comparatively cheaply and to limit the top price of the product, while retaining mobile broadband connectivity for its pricier iPad line.”
The insiders said that the mini tablet may be Wi-Fi only, ruling out 3G and 4G as connectivity options.
An updated version of the 9.7-inch iPad with 4G support in the U.K. and the Lightning dock connector is expected to be unveiled by Cupertino.
The iPad Mini is expected to come with a 7.85-inch screen and an aluminum rear case.
The mini tablet will face competition from Amazon’s 7-inch Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7.
A recent report stated that design changes to the new iPad Mini have halted the production of cases for the device.
