According to recent by RBC Capital Markets analyst Doug Freedman, who is currently visiting Chinese supply chains sources, chip manufacturers are already working on the next embedded processor for the future iPad mini.

“iPad Mini Gen-2: Apple’s gen-2 iPad mini is getting pulled-in, and is likely to have several new suppliers, with TXN gaining content,” he wrote.

Freedman particularly brings up the name of Texas Instruments, referred to as “TXN” in his note, another sign that Apple wants to move away from Samsung as a supplier.

This acceleration in the design of the Retina iPad mini is an indicator of the arrival of the 7-inch tablet in the first quarter of 2013, he claims.

The recently-released iPad Mini was launched in China in early December.
