Tegra 4 is dedicated to tablets and smartphones. It was announced by Nvidia as the world’s fastest processor for mobile devices.
It operates on a base of a quad-core A15 CPU ARM Cortex and features custom NVIDIA GeForce GPU cores (on this last point, it is six times better than the Tegra 3).
Nvidia indicates that Tegra 4 is 2.6 faster than its predecessor. At the same time, power consumption for typical tasks has decreased up to 45%.
The manufacturer claims its system is the fastest mobile processor in the world. We can therefore expect to see many smartphones and tablets equipped with such a chip this year.
The Tegra 4 is also presented as faster and more efficient than the A6X processor which equips Apple’s iPad 4.
This chip also integrates a number of technologies designed to improve photo capture, including via the HDR (High Dynamic Range) for blending exposures in a single image.
All in just 0.2 seconds against, supposedly, 2 seconds for the iPhone 5.
Obviously, autonomy is also announced to rise: up to 14 hours of video playback for a smartphone.
The Tegra 4 is also composed of a second communication chip with 4G/LTE compatibility.
This i500 Soft Modem processor is very fast (1,200 billion operations per second), and especially programmable, allowing it to easily adapt to different types of mobile networks in the world.
