RIM becomes BlackBerry, launches Z10 and Q10

Research In Motion announced on Wednesday that it changed its name to BlackBerry at the New York launch of its new line of BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

CEO Thorsten Heins wanted to make the abandonment of the name under which the Canadian manufacturer was founded in 1985, a symbol of a new beginning.

“This is one of the biggest launches in our industry and today is not the finish line, it’s the starting line,” said CEO Heins.

The Z10 will be available in the UK on Thursday, on February 5 in Canada, in the United Arab Emirates on March 10 and mid-March in the US.

In the US, the device will be released by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon who has already announced it will cost $199.99 with a two-year subscription.
