According to forecasts by Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, the rumored budget iPhone will be equipped with a 4-inch screen, just like the iPhone 5.
Kuo claims that the details of Apple’s low-cost iPhone have been fixed since 2011 and it is unlikely that Apple will abruptly change plans just because the market is trending toward larger displays.
The new iPhone will have a “super-thin plastic casing mixed with glass fiber.” The material should make it stronger, thinner and lighter than other smartphones on the market.
Foxconn and Green Point of the Jabil group will provide the plastic housings, while the distribution of the production of the device will be shared between Foxconn and Pegatron.
The analyst also believes Cupertino will release an updated iPhone 5S later this year.
He expects the handset will come with a fingerprint sensor, which would save users the need to type passwords but also ease authentication during NFC transactions.
