In a note to investors on Friday, Amit Daryanani of RBC Capital Markets suggests June or July are set for the launch date of the iPhone 5S and the low-cost model.
The analyst forecasts Apple will launch a cheap iPhone model, with a plastic chassis and a 4-inch display, but no Retina technology.
“The low-end iPhone will have the same 4-inch form factor as the iPhone 5, but will have a plastic casing and no Retina display,” he said. “With a lower price point, AAPL will be able to target a growing and important part of the smartphone market (sub-$400 price band).”
Daryanani also announced that the gross margins of this Apple product will be lower than the iPhone 5 or an iPhone 5S, but the low-cost model will be able to bring 22 billion of additional revenue for the company.
Other predictions he made include the launch of a new iPad Mini and a new iPad this year, and probably also the rumored iWatch and the iTV.
Earlier this month, another analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, reiterated that Apple will launch these two smartphones in June.
